Funding Received to Develop Strategic Master Plan

We have received $286,000 from the U.S. Department of Interior Office of Insular Affairs to develop our strategic master plan. VIAC will convene a strategic development conference with community and other experts in historic preservation, building arts and crafts, education, curriculum development and other areas to solidify our vision and plan of action.

Funding Received for Capacity Building – St. Croix Foundation

VIAC received funding for $15,000 through the CARE Sustaining Impact Grant administered by St. Croix Foundation for Community Development for Capacity Building. We are grateful for the support of St. Croix Foundation as we continue to develop our project.

Funding Received for Operating Support – CFVI

VIAC received Operating Support funding for  $20,000 through the American Rescue Plan Humanities Grant Program administered by the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands, with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). We are grateful for the support of CFVI as we continue to develop our project.

Site Acquisition and Stabilization

VIAC is finalizing a lease agreement with the Virgin Islands Department of Education which owns the Old Barracks. Once completed, we will obtain funding for site stabilization, asbestos and lead paint abatement and architecture and engineering costs.

Curriculum Design

As Virgin Islands built heritage is Afro-Danish, VIAC will engage architects and educators from the Virgin Islands, Denmark, Ghana and the United States to design a curriculum for its school.

VIAC is history, culture, education, and economic development coming together to benefit community.

VIAC is a catalyst for the evolution of our towns.

Let’s make something beautiful together.
